  • brought the Alfa to Autotune, for an evaluation.
  • Autotune will do the work to make it road worthy including
    • rejet the carbs.
    • redo the brakes/lines
    • replace the windshield (found one in North America)
    • replace torn rear window.
    • etc..
    • no body work, just making it mechanically sound
    • estimated time to completion, 3 weeks.

Nov 22, 2011

  • haven't done anything since Sep.
  • Found a good mechanic.  I was going to do the carbs and tuneup myself, but then changed my mind after talking to those in the know.  Instead of taking an easy job and turning it into a disaster I decided to find somebody.
    • As luck would have it, someone at work asked me about the car, I mentioned my dilema, and he recommended I talk to another co-worker.
    • He recommended Autotune a shop he had worked for at one time as a mechanic.
    • Wow, I hit the jackpot.  Autotune was the one and only Alfa dealer in the City carries Alfa parts and knows my car!
      • He wants to do a tune up, compression check, etc..., etc... then do carbs.  I agree but will wait till Spring to do it.
      • Until Spring, I'll start the car weekly and move it around.
      • Put 2 gallons of fresh premium gas mixed with alcohol (Rons suggestion) and started it today (Nov 22, 2011)

  • installed newly repaired alternator and new voltage regulator.
    • works!!
      • video-->

Sep 2, 2011
  • Brought alternator and voltage regulator into Total Auto Electric
    • alternator had burnt diodes from plugging battery in backwards
    • voltage regulator has a short and o/p voltage is not to spec.
    • alternator to be fixed  and new regulator brought in.

  • re-installed fuel tank : easy to get out hard to get back in.  Work the back end in first, going down low into the opening and tilting right side up accommodating the filler pipe.  Then wiggle it in.
  • re-installed fuel pump TODO-replace fuel lines from tank to pump and the pump outlet hose.  They aren't proper lines.
  • ed, mark and I got it running.  It starts easily and runs but does not keep idle.  Needs new plugs and its possible 1 or 2 cylinders aren't sparking.  TODO get new plugs : UPDATE - done, lugs installed.

Aug 27, 2011
  • removed gas tank.  Fuel Level Gauge does not appear to be working reads infinite resistance at all times.  I think its a varnish problem.
    • update: we boiled varnish off but get sporadic readings.  Might have to buy new.

Aug 19, 2011
  • first start.  Finally got the car started, thanks guys.
From Alfa Romeo, Spider Veloce - Aug 21, 2011
    • we tried starting.  Wouldn't. Checked for spark. No spark.  F'ed around, checked coil and distributor.  Then checked for spark again. Spark worked.  Why??????
    • started.  But wouldnt keep going.
      • no fuel coming from fuel pump.
      • removed fuel pump.
 TODO
  • get alternator checked DONE- alternator was blown, repaired and replaced.
  • get new fuel pump. DONE- bought one locally (parts source on bruce st.), I was surprised it was available locally. (I bought a Carter P4070 as recommended here...)
